News from Evan Jones(1977)
From school to Rhodes University (B.Pharm)
for 5 years, apprenticeship in Hillcrest Natal one year, overseas (UK and
Europe) for a while and then 2 years national service (mostly Natal.)
During this time I played Polocrosse following on from my exploits in most
equestrian sports at school. Played for Shongweni in Natal.
Started running for fitness after school.
Haven't stopped yet.
Two years working in my father's pharmacy
after army and then some years away in Joburg during which time I repped
for a while then went into retail pharmacy with the Dischem group where I
managed their biggest pharmacy for 7 years. Came back to
East London to buy my fathers pharmacy 6 years ago. I was still running
but had added cycling and then swimming to do triathlons. Have been doing
triathlons now with some success for about 15 years. Represented South
Africa in my age group on two occasions at the World Championships in 1995
(Mexico) and 2002 (France)
Am married (May 2001) to Monica and we live 10
minutes walk from Nahoon Beach which is magnificent early in the morning
for a walk and a swim. At night we can hear the surf pounding into the
reef.
I have two sons Russel (16) and Steven (14)
from previous marriage.
My Dad Ivor (1948) still works for me on
Wednesday afternoons and some weekends and cycles the Argus Tour every
year. He is riding to Cape Town in 2003 to then cycle the Tour!
My brother Bryn (1979) is in Randburg and is
in the IT industry.
